THEME: Great Strength for Effective Service
TEXT: Luke 22:40-44, 2Timothy 4:17.
- Jesus asked for the strength to be able to endure persecution and suffering. He asked for the strength to endure the contradictions of sinners against Himself (Hebrews 12:1-3). Jesus didn’t ask for the strength to confront those sinners that would persecute him, accuse him wrongly and beat him up. Instead he asked for the strength to endure.
- The Kingdom of God needs to find expression in our lives. The will of God has to be done in our lives if we want God’s Kingdom to reign in our hearts. The Will of God is whatever we can find in God; Righteousness, Humility, Love etc. Matt. 6:9-10. Most times, we do not always get what we want because we refuse to seek the kingdom of God first (Matt. 6:33). Other things will fall in place when we first seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness.
- Until we come to the acknowledgement that the will of God has to be done in our lives as Jesus said in Luke 22:42 ( “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”), we won’t see the result that ensues. Example is seen in the next verse 43 ” And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit*.(AMP). The Church has to pray that we should always seek the Kingdom of God first, and that His will be done in Earth (In us, as God’s representative on Earth) as it is in Heaven.
