MEMORY VERSE: Deut. 6:5

INTRODUCTION

To Love is to desire, adore, revere and become passionate about somebody or something. Being the first commandment handed to us, to love God is to do all that we see the father do. As Christians, we are not expected to limit this love to the boundaries of our hearts alone, instead we’re to love him with our soul, strength, mind, and all that we are and have. To Love God means to give our all to Him. Beyond words can describe, it requires we as disciples to embrace the love that Christ has given us. [Ephesians 2:4-5, 10; John 10:17, Romans 5:8]. Truth be told, we can only love God to the extent of our knowledge. The hallmark of God’s love for us is Him sending his only son to die for us.

THE REASON WE MUST LOVE GOD; 1JOHN 4:19

Because he loved us first. In response to the sacrifice he made for us, so that we can return to our rightful state, John 15:12. We receive and fully behold the love of God when we respond to this depth of his Love for us. This is the beginning of the Journey into the Life.

LOVE FOR GOD: A DAILY REALITY

The presence of God is revealed in Love. Till we seek, we would never have. Loving God means seeking him daily. This is as the Lord described in Deuteronomy 6:5. Love is never static. It is seen in thirst and hunger for more of the presence of God, 1John 3:3. It must be done as a sacrifice that believers offers to God done with constraint Rom. 8:35.

HOW TO SHOW OUR LOVE FOR GOD

  1. Obedience : (Joshua 23:11, John 14:15, 23)
  2. Hunger: (Songs of Solomon 1:4)
  3. Intentionally Shun evil: (Ps 97:10)
  4. Conversing: we talk to him and also wait for him to talk to us (1Thess5:17)
  5. Evangelizing: You’ll always talk about someone you love, (Heb. 6:10).

RESULT OF LOVING GOD

  • It fosters our relationship with Him
  • It reveals knowledge Eph.3:19
  • Performance of what it requires to be a Christian
  • Loving God increases our insight
  • It Casts out fear  1 john 4:18
  • It grants us grace to replicate this love to another 1 john 4:10-15

CONCLUSION

Love is a commitment, a sacrifice, and a course. God is love for to this understanding of His love that we come to knowing Him. There is the possibility of love waxing cold (Mtt 24:12). When we are in such times, then we need to stay more with God and do things that can rekindle our love for God. If we fail to walk in that love, then we would be missing out on lots of what God has for us. The love for God is much more than a feeling, it has to be expressed. God desires a relationship with us which should be greater than anything else. (Matt 10:37).
