Seeking God Early (Ps 63 vs 1)

Why do we need to seek God? Can God possibly be hidden from us?

Isa 57:15
“For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit…”

He lives in the high but if sought after, can be found!
To what extent can we seek God?
We pray the ancient word of God will impact your heart in Jesus name.

In Psalm 63:1, the Psalmist said:

Psalm 63:1
”God, You are my God; early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You…”

This could imply that there is a time frame to seeking God.

Isa 55:6 ”Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.”

Also, there is a limit to human. We can’t choose to seek him in our own pleasurable days because there is an appointed time for man

Job 7:1”is there not a time of hard service for man on earth? Are not his days also like the days of a hired man?”

Our days are indeed a fleeting one. A man who missed God and never found Him in his lifetime will definitely be in total loss as there will be no remedy for such. To some, seeking God early might mean getting to know God right from their early years.

Eccl 12:1”Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them…”

While some were privilege to find God few days/years to death or just in their old age – either ways they still found God early. A living dog is better than a dead lion; Eccl 9:4.

Your personal expectations of God is what delivers God to you. In other words the Psalmist is saying in Psalm 63:1: “my whole being longs for God, I have a strong desire to see God.” Likewise we are to allow a sincere thirst and hunger for the Living God.

Finding God in the Sanctuary

Ps 63:2 says:

”So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. … “

The sanctuary is a place God has put His name in, a place where you call upon God by His name and He comes to answer.  The priest who knows how to appease God well enough to enforce His presence, do so from the sanctuary. The sanctuary is a living and active portal/channel to meet God. It is a holy and consecrated estate to see God. It is far beyond the bricks and blocks. The sacrifices/incense we burn in the sanctuary are our prayers and supplications which rises to God as a pleasing fragrance and draws God to us.

Why do we need to seek Him?

– It is the Commandment of God; Isa 55:6

”Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.”

– To see His Power and Glory; Ps 63:2

“So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.”

– Seeking God Early averts evils from us and keeps your Heart from thinking evil; 2 Chron 12:14

And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.”

– Seeking God is proof of the humility of our heart. 2 Chrn 15:13, 2Chr12:14, 2Chr 20:3, Jeremiah 50:4.

”And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.”
2 Chron 20:3-4

Seeking God is vital for our spiritual growth and every believer must engage in a personal quest in seeking God. We shall further explore the word of God on “How to seek God” and the “Benefits of Seeking God Early”.
May the Lord bless His words in our hearts. Amen.
